Tamara snatched Villoria’s IBF belt
Referee Bruce McTavish was forced to stop the fight in the remaining 1:45 of the final round thus proclaiming Colombian Carlos Tamara as the new International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-flyweight champion.
Viloria was leading on the scorecards until the 9th round when Tamara start unleashing the punches. Brian Viloria appeared to be wobbly at the beginning of the 12th round and after 14 unanswered punches from Tamara, the referee was forced to stop the fight.
Meanwhile, the 3 other Filipino fighter were victorious in their own quest, 17-year old Philippine lightweight champion Jason Pagara won against Indonesian Eddy Comaro via majority decision (96-94, 98-92, 95-95) after 10 rounds in their lightweight match-up.
On the second game, Jimrex Jaca knocked-out Indonesian Ramadhan Weriu with the right uppercut – left hook combo at the 2:58 mark of the 5th round
In the co-main event, World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes scored a 10th round TKO win against Mexican Jesus Silvestre. Silvestre spit out his mouthpiece and refused to wear it back even when insisted upon by his corner prompting referee Ver Abainza to stop the fight with 1:37 remaining at the final round.
Brian Viloria was rushed to the San Juan de Dios Hospital for a routine check-up, he was later transferred to the Makati Medical Center for additional tests. He is now in stable condition.
